Reading Block: Grades K-2 (90 Minutes)

Integrated Science and Social Studies Content

Selection of texts throughout the block could be based on the content standards (NGSSS) within whole group, small group, and independent differentiated practice within both the literary and informational realm. All components of the literacy blocks indicated below are based on current research including The Continuum of Literacy Learning, Grades PreK-8 (Fountas and Pinnell) and the contents of our literacy professional learning courses.

Whole Group Instruction 10-15 Minutes

Modeled instruction during this time should be at the Frustration or Instructional level of the student (with scaffolded support) based on his/her running record data.
